Few people lie awake at night worrying about their ventilation control. And that is exactly how it should be. Technology in a healthcare facility should operate in the background without anyone giving it a second thought. The problem, however, is that in many buildings, this background has become a tangle over the years, where no single system maintains an overview.

Heating, ventilation, lighting, access control, and nurse call systems were added one by one, each with its own control system and supplier. On paper, you have everything. In practice, nothing communicates. You only truly notice this at the worst possible moment: when something goes wrong and the first question is not how to solve it, but whom to call.

Why a retrofit is often smarter than replacing everything

The reflex is often to tear everything out and start over. This is understandable, but expensive and usually unnecessary. Many installations are still technically perfect. They have simply never been introduced to one another.

A retrofit solves exactly that. Fixsus adds the intelligence that the installations previously lacked and brings them together on a single, central, open platform. Faults become visible, targeted adjustments can be made, and there is finally a clear overview. Most of the existing cabling remains in place, which makes the final bill much more attractive.

What we see time and again

In the healthcare projects Fixsus manages—ranging from residential care centers to multifunctional centers—the same pattern recurs. Buildings that have grown organically, with installations living side by side without ever exchanging a word. Frequently, an installation that has been labeled as defective for years turns out to still be functional. The problem lies in the old control system, not the device itself. Sometimes the most cost-effective solution is not a new machine, but a proper conversation between the machines that are already there.

The renewal takes place in phases, room by room or wing by wing, while care continues as usual. Residents do not need to move, and no one notices that significant work is being done under the hood. In an environment that never closes, this is not a luxury but a requirement.

Technology that does not hinder the care team

New technology often promises to lighten the workload, only to deliver an extra screen, a new procedure, and a handful of new beeps. No one is happy with that. That is why the operation remains as familiar as possible for care teams: no training courses, no new habits, just continuing to work as always.

Meanwhile, the technical department sees what is happening in a single overview and can intervene more quickly. And because everything converges on one open system, you are not tied to a single supplier for every subsequent step.

This approach does not stop in the technical room. It extends into the room itself, where nurse call, controls, and comfort come together in one logical whole. In this way, an older building does not become a hindrance to quality care, but a foundation that can grow steadily.
